Hi All, Anyone noticing their CPU usage unusually high and fan's spinning after the macOS Sierra update, well i've narrowed it down to a process, so couple of things so far seem to have done the trick, one clear the OCSPD cache from /var/db/crls and deleting the contents and restarting, also Google Chrome Helper on version 51.0.2704.84 (64-bit) causing me some high CPU usage issues. Google Chrome Helper running at 107% CPU usage, time to use Safari now. Update #2 - Google Chrome definitely causing issues so i'd stick with Safari Version 10.0 (12602.1.32.7) for now I've made a Restricted Software policy for the OCSPD and targeted it to my test machine and it seems to have settled down the fan's going crazy: Update #2: Credit to the IT Nerd Setting the following in Keychain Preferences in the Certificate's tab seem to clear the OCSPD issue: I'll report back any other findings! Outlook and Gmail have separate address books. They don’t sync, which means that if you change your contacts in one or the other, then you have one address book that remains unchanged. Here’s how to keep your address books synced with free, open-source software. It’s really. The problem is, it’s a one-time thing. If you make a change to your Outlook contacts, if your friend changes their e-mail address or phone number, or you add or remove a contact, then you have to change it in your Gmail. Set up Gmail in Outlook for Mac and synchronize all mail and labels. Gmail on the web can do much, and it is fast enough at it. On the web, Gmail cannot do all that Outlook for Mac can do on your own machine, though, in quite so snappy and stylish a manner, can it? (Where are the flexible mail. Add-in support for Gmail Accounts in Mac Outlook is not currently mandatory. If you do not wish to support Gmail at this time, you may mention this in the test notes of your submission. Once you do this, your add-in will not be validated on Gmail accounts, nor marked as supporting Gmail Accounts in Mac Outlook. And, if you make changes in Gmail, then they won’t be reflected in Outlook. RELATED: You see the problem? It’s not one without a solution however, with, you can keep your Outlook and Gmail contacts in check. If you make a change to one then you can use GO Contact Sync Mod to update the other, quickly, conveniently, and almost effortlessly. Mac os x install media. Did We Mention it’s Open Source? GO Contact Sync Mod doesn’t try any funny stuff. It’s open source, so it’s free to use, and doesn’t have toolbars or spyware spoiling the experience. Before you can install GO Contact Sync Mod, you need to. Then you can and start keeping your Gmail and Outlook contacts in perfect harmony. When you first open GO Contact Sync Mod, you’ll need to enter you Google account username and password before you can sync anything. Remember, if you’ve got two-factor authentication enabled on your Gmail account, you will have to use an app-specific password. Some of you probably have two or more Google accounts. If you want to sync those with GO Contact Sync Mod, you create profiles. Under the sync options, you want to click the “sync profile” dropdown menu and then “add new profile.” This will open the configuration manager. The options here are very simple. If you’ve already entered your login information, click “add” to create a new profile using that username/password combination. The “edit” button merely lets you rename your profile. Looking at the sync options, you can select, which Outlook contacts to sync (if you have more than one Outlook e-mail account and address book), choose whether to sync deleted contacts, and whether the program prompts you when deleting contacts from your destination address book. Note, in addition to contacts, you can also sync your notes and appointments. If you have “prompt deletion” selected, you will be asked how you want to proceed. For example, in this screenshot, an Outlook contact has been previously deleted. GO Contact Sync Mod prompts us whether we want to keep the Google contact or delete it too. ![]() Below the sync options are some important configuration settings. Though these options have check boxes beside each, you can only choose one. By default, the program will prompt you if you want to merge any duplicate contacts, or you can decide whether Outlook wins or Google wins the merge operation. Finally, you can select which way syncs are performed – either Outlook to Google or Google to Outlook. The automation settings let you choose whether program runs at startup, and if it automatically syncs. If you choose the auto sync option, the sync interval can then be set. It’s set to sync every two hours by default. If you select “report sync result in system tray,” a report will pop up from the GO Contact Sync Mod system tray icon. You may have also noticed the sync details and log. ![]() Friendly Review of the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport for Mac External Hard Drive (). If you own a Mac and are just getting started with web design then I heartily endorse Freeway Express for a starter program. Just make sure you get the manual or carefully read the instructions that come within the software and you'll be able to master this program. Freeway for Mac has been developed to make designing sophisticated and standards-based websites easy. With a streamlined interface that’s just like using your favorite image editing application, we make it easy for you to create HTML content without having to touch a line of code. If you enjoy frustration, and fighting software that doesn't do what the authors claim it does, then Freeway 4 Express is for you. If you're normal, however, you definitely want to avoid this product. Note If you don't select the Create new Git repository in the New Project dialog, the Git controls show only an Add to source control command that creates a local repository. • Select the changes button, and Visual Studio opens its Team Explorer window on the Changes page. Because the newly created project is already committed to source control automatically, you don't see any pending changes. • On the Visual Studio status bar, select the unpushed commits button (the up arrow with 2) to open the Synchronization page in Team Explorer. Because you have only a local repository, the page provides easy options to publish the repository to different remote repositories. You can choose whichever service you want for your own projects. ![]() This tutorial shows the use of GitHub, where the completed sample code for the tutorial is maintained in the repository. • When selecting any of the Publish controls, Team Explorer prompts you for more information. For example, when publishing the sample for this tutorial, the repository itself had to be created first, in which case the Push to Remote Repository option was used with the repository's URL. If you don't have an existing repository, the Publish to GitHub and Push to Azure DevOps options let you create one directly from within Visual Studio. • As you work through this tutorial, get into the habit of periodically using the controls in Visual Studio to commit and push changes. Question: What are some advantages of using source control from the beginning of a project? Answer: First of all, using source control from the start, especially if you also use a remote repository, provides a regular offsite backup of your project. Unlike maintaining a project just on a local file system, source control also provides a complete change history and the easy ability to revert a single file or the whole project to a previous state. That change history helps determine the cause of regressions (test failures). Furthermore, source control is essential if multiple people are working on a project, as it manages overwrites and provides conflict resolution. Finally, source control, which is fundamentally a form of automation, sets you up well for automating builds, testing, and release management. It's really the first step in using DevOps for a project, and because the barriers to entry are so low, there's really no reason to not use source control from the beginning. For further discussion on source control as automation, see, an article in MSDN Magazine written for mobile apps that applies also to web apps. Question: Can I prevent Visual Studio from auto-committing a new project? To disable auto-commit, go to the Settings page in Team Explorer, select Git > Global settings, clear the option labeled Commit changes after merge by default, then select Update. Step 1-3: Create the virtual environment and exclude it from source control Now that you've configured source control for your project, you can create the virtual environment that contains the necessary Django packages for the project. You can then use Team Explorer to exclude the environment's folder from source control. • In Solution Explorer, right-click the Python Environments node and select Add Virtual Environment. • An Add Virtual Environment dialog appears, with a message saying We found a requirements.txt file. This message indicates that Visual Studio uses that file to configure the virtual environment. • Select Create to accept the defaults. (You can change the name of the virtual environment if you want, which just changes the name of its subfolder, but env is a standard convention.) • Consent to administrator privileges if prompted, then be patient for a few minutes while Visual Studio downloads and installs packages, which for Django means expanding several thousand files in about as many subfolders! You can see progress in the Visual Studio Output window. While you're waiting, ponder the Question sections that follow. Freeway Express is a third party application that provides additional functionality to OS X system and enjoys a popularity among Mac users. However, instead of installing it by dragging its icon to the Application folder, uninstalling Freeway Express may need you to do more than a simple drag-and-drop to the Trash. When installed, Freeway Express creates files in several locations. Generally, its additional files, such as preference files and application support files, still remains on the hard drive after you delete Freeway Express from the Application folder, in case that the next time you decide to reinstall it, the settings of this program still be kept. But if you are trying to uninstall Freeway Express in full and free up your disk space, removing all its components is highly necessary. Continue reading this article to learn about the proper methods for uninstalling Freeway Express. Manually uninstall Freeway Express step by step: Most applications in Mac OS X are bundles that contain all, or at least most, of the files needed to run the application, that is to say, they are self-contained. Thus, different from the program uninstall method of using the control panel in Windows, Mac users can easily drag any unwanted application to the Trash and then the removal process is started. Despite that, you should also be aware that removing an unbundled application by moving it into the Trash leave behind some of its components on your Mac. To fully get rid of Freeway Express from your Mac, you can manually follow these steps: 1. Terminate Freeway Express process(es) via Activity Monitor Before uninstalling Freeway Express, you’d better quit this application and end all its processes. If Freeway Express is frozen, you can press Cmd +Opt + Esc, select Freeway Express in the pop-up windows and click Force Quit to quit this program (this shortcut for force quit works for the application that appears but not for its hidden processes). Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder in Launchpad, and select All Processes on the drop-down menu at the top of the window. Select the process(es) associated with Freeway Express in the list, click Quit Process icon in the left corner of the window, and click Quit in the pop-up dialog box (if that doesn’t work, then try Force Quit). Delete Freeway Express application using the Trash First of all, make sure to log into your Mac with an administrator account, or you will be asked for a password when you try to delete something. Open the Applications folder in the Finder (if it doesn’t appear in the sidebar, go to the Menu Bar, open the “Go” menu, and select Applications in the list), search for Freeway Express application by typing its name in the search field, and then drag it to the Trash (in the dock) to begin the uninstall process. Alternatively you can also click on the Freeway Express icon/folder and move it to the Trash by pressing Cmd + Del or choosing the File and Move to Trash commands. For the applications that are installed from the App Store, you can simply go to the Launchpad, search for the application, click and hold its icon with your mouse button (or hold down the Option key), then the icon will wiggle and show the “X” in its left upper corner. Click the “X” and click Delete in the confirmation dialog. Remove all components related to Freeway Express in Finder Though Freeway Express has been deleted to the Trash, its lingering files, logs, caches and other miscellaneous contents may stay on the hard disk. For complete removal of Freeway Express, you can manually detect and clean out all components associated with this application. You can search for the relevant names using Spotlight. Those preference files of Freeway Express can be found in the Preferences folder within your user’s library folder (~/Library/Preferences) or the system-wide Library located at the root of the system volume (/Library/Preferences/), while the support files are located in '~/Library/Application Support/' or '/Library/Application Support/'. Open the Finder, go to the Menu Bar, open the “Go” menu, select the entry:|Go to Folder. And then enter the path of the Application Support folder:~/Library Search for any files or folders with the program’s name or developer’s name in the ~/Library/Preferences/, ~/Library/Application Support/ and ~/Library/Caches/ folders. ![]() Quicken provides options for you to list your business transactions, including income and expenses. Quickbooks: Two Accounting Software Options for Small Business Before you Decide on Quicken or Quickbooks: Some Background Information Intuit introduced Quicken, its personal finance software, to the market in 1984. The software became popular and the company started offering different versions, including Quicken Home Business, which integrated personal finance and business records into a single software program. Entry-level Starter, Deluxe, and Premier editions, as well as a Rental Property Manager edition are also available. Quickbooks software is software geared toward small business owners. Also developed by Intuit, it was launched in 1998. The new program was based on Quicken and was designed for business owners who had limited accounting experience. The software was a success; however a number of accountants felt at the time that it did not have the level of robustness, security and an audit trail required of a small business accounting package. Intuit responded by improving Quickbooks. In 2000, the software was updated to include features like double entries, audit trials and other features. These changes were meant to be accounting industry compliant for instances where small business owners were using the software for day-to-day record keeping and visiting a professional for quarterly or year-end services. Compatibility Quicken pro is also available in Windows versions. You can also access the software online. Quickbooks is available for Windows and online. The Mac version is available for North American customers only. Features and Pricing of Quicken Home and Business Quicken Home and any small Business allows you to manage both your personal and business finances with one software program. When I initially started out in Xamarin development I had my Dell laptop running Windows 8.1 with Visual Studio and Xamarin Studio and my old 2008 vintage Macbook Pro upgraded to El Capitan with an SSD to help it out. I did most of my initial work on the Windows laptop, although four years old it had two SSD's, a quad core i7 processor and 32GB of RAM compared to the Macbook's Core Duo processor and 4GB of RAM so the choice was fairly easy. When I first started using Xamarin I read some posts which were critical of Xamarin Studio and given I have been using Visual Studio for longer than I cared to admit I initally choose to focus on Visual Studio as the development environment with the Mac acting as a build host only. I was curious to try out Xamarin Studio though and started to use the Mac with Xamarin Studio for the iOS Xamarin University Classes, noting that most classes were presented using Xamarin Studio on a Mac also. I was really pleasantly surprised with how good Xamarin Studio was, to me it seems nice and lightweight especially when compared to Visual Studio. Mac Mini or Macbook Pro? Eventually my old Macbook Pro finally died and I needed a new Mac of some description as I had two Xamarin University iOS classes the next week. I considered using a Mac mini to act as a build host and to use Visual Studio on my Windows laptop as the development environment. This is a cheap solution but lacks portability. When working on Xamarin in my spare time I often work on a laptop on my couch so didn't really consider a desktop Mac, in the end I decided to buy another Macbook Pro. So a Macbook Pro - Which one? The ability to have a Windows and Mac development environment on a single laptop by running Windows under a Parallels or VmWare Fusion virtual machine seemed a really good setup. I considered a 13' Macbook Pro as they are such a nice balance of probability and performance but ultimately thought the more powerful processors available in the 15' would be beneficial when running Visual Studio in a Windows 10 virtual machine. Virtual Machine Choice The setup I’ve opted for is to install Windows 10 natively via BootCamp and then to setup a virtual machine to use the Bootcamp install. After some research I’ve opted for, this is the same setup as the Xamarin University instructors use and seems to be a popular choice. Parallels would probably be an equally good choice, each option having advantages and disadvantages over the other. The screenshot below shows Visual Studio 2015 running in Fusion in a 'Unity' view floating over the top of Xamarin Studio running natively in OS X. Sharing files between Windows & OS X Sharing files between Windows and Mac OS X is limited to read only access of the other operating system files (NTFS on Windows and HFS on OS X). The Bootcamp documentation suggests copying the files into the currently running operating systems partition in order to gain write access. An option is to create a FAT32 orExFAT partition which both Windows and OS X can write to. ExFAT doesn't have the 4GB file limit of FAT32. ![]() ![]() I was put off of these options though after reading some posts with people describing problems that had been encountered when using this option. Paid for drivers enabling write access to the other operating system are available, I have so far opted to use those from Paragon:-, a driver is also available for Windows:-, note that if File Vault disk encryption is enabled on OS X then the Mac partition won't be visible in Windows Explorer. VMWare Fusion supports shared folders which enable both the Mac host and the virtual machine to read and write to the same shared files, note this option can not be used when running Bootcamp natively. Storing the source files in GitHub and using the relevant GitHub clients is another option to get at the source code when booting natively into Windows. I have thus far mostly worked on Visual Studio when running in the virtual machine anyway, but can use the Paragon drivers to gain read/write access to files on each OS. Xamarin Build Agent With the release of Xamarin 4 the requirement to run the Mac Build Host in order to build and debug iOS apps has been removed and the overall experience running Visual Studio 2015 in VMWare Fusion on the MacBook is now pretty slick. The initial setup is documented here:-. I was impressed that I could open a solution in Xamarin Studio on OS X and at the same time open the same solution in Visual Studio running inside Fusion via the Fusion Shared Folders and debug to my iPhone from either development environment (although not at the same time). Backups The OS X Time Machine backup will not backup the Windows Bootcamp partition. I ended up using which is installed on OS X and will backup both the Mac and Windows partitions in.
